FRONTforyou

FRONTforyou was an independent art publication and curatorial platform founded in Antwerp by designer Ticuta Racovita-Cordemans and artist Sven Rayen. Active during the mid-2000s, the project brought together contemporary art, graphic design, illustration, fashion, photography, music, and performance. It developed within Antwerp’s multidisciplinary creative scene, where the boundaries between artistic disciplines were increasingly being questioned and explored.

Originally conceived as an alternative art magazine, FRONTforyou offered artists and designers a platform outside the conventions of established cultural publications. The magazine presented original work, interviews, visual contributions, and collaborations by both emerging and established creatives. Rather than following a fixed editorial format, every issue was approached as an independent project with its own identity, content, and visual language.

From the beginning, the project was shaped by an open and collaborative attitude. FRONTforyou was interested not only in finished artworks but also in experimentation, artistic processes, unexpected encounters, and the exchange of ideas. Contemporary art was presented alongside fashion, illustration, graphic design, music, and other forms of visual culture. This multidisciplinary approach reflected a generation of artists who worked freely between different media and resisted being defined by a single discipline.

FRONTforyou soon expanded beyond the printed page. Publications became starting points for exhibitions, performances, screenings, installations, music events, and temporary artistic interventions. These physical events allowed contributors, readers, artists, and audiences to meet, turning the magazine into a shared and participatory experience. In this way, FRONTforyou functioned as both a publication and a mobile curatorial platform.

Projects were presented at several Belgian cultural institutions and independent art spaces, including FOMU in Antwerp, Z33 in Hasselt, Recyclart in Brussels, and Netwerk in Aalst. Events such as Front Knows What’s Best for You, Spend the Night with FRONTforyou, Enter the Front-Night, and I Wish You a Merry FRONT-Nightcombined visual art with performance, music, film, and social interaction. Each event was developed in relation to its location and brought together a changing selection of artists and creative contributors.

The project’s graphic identity was an essential part of its character. Editorial design was not treated simply as a neutral container for content but as an active component of the artistic experience. Typography, sequencing, image selection, printing, and presentation helped give each edition its own atmosphere. The publication itself could therefore be understood as a curated exhibition in printed form.

Through its combination of independent publishing, curatorial experimentation, and multidisciplinary collaboration, FRONTforyou captured the creative energy of Antwerp’s art scene in the early 2000s. It created connections between people and practices that might otherwise have remained separated and offered space for work that did not always fit within conventional institutional or commercial structures.

FRONTforyou also established the foundations for the long-term creative partnership between Ticuta Racovita-Cordemans and Sven Rayen. Their shared interest in art, design, publishing, and collaboration would later continue through Studio Palermo, the multidisciplinary creative studio they founded in Antwerp in 2015.
